Hydromation Deep Bed Filter
Filtra-Systems Hydromation Deep Bed Filter has overcome the limitations of conventional bed type filters due to a maximum efficiency regeneration design.
What makes the filter the best available technology for removal of oil and solids from water streams is the media regeneration design. The regeneration is achieved using the kinetic model of a Continually Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR), which makes the backwash the most efficient, most powerful, most economical, and only scientifically provable regeneration technology offered in the market today.
The Hydromation Deep Bed Filter is a proven technology with hundreds of installations worldwide, in a variety of difficult applications. If your sand, anthracite, or multimedia filter is not backwashing properly, the Hydromation will, guaranteed.

Overview
Hydromation® Nut Shell Filters are down flow, deep bed, walnut shell media filters designed for produced water filtration. As the liquid passes through the media bed, oil and solids are efficiently retained in the bed, and can then be easily backwashed out of the media bed with the patented, rotating media scrubbing assembly. This backwash assembly is the best technology available for fluidizing the media bed and allows the manufacture of large flow horizontal units. No chemicals, surfactants, or air sparging cycles are required for the backwash.
Operating Principle
In water and waste water applications, Hydromation Nut Shell Filters are used to remove suspended solids and insoluble hydrocarbons from oily waste water, groundwater, plant process water, cooling water, water recycling & re-use. In metalworking, power generation, municipal, chemical, and petrochemical applications, they treat and remove suspended solids, oily residues, ash, and metallic hydroxides from industrial liquids.
Hydromation nut shell filtration systems give you double the throughput efficiency of conventional deep bed sand or graded mixed-media filters to filter out suspended solids and hydrocarbons. Under normal operating conditions, they remove 95 to 99% of suspended solids, and 90 to 99% of insoluble hydrocarbons, without the use of chemicals.
The media scrubbing cycle prevents filter bed fouling. Unique to Hydromation nut shell filters is a patented media scrubbing cycle that fully reconditions the filter media during each backwash cycle. This scrubbing cycle is initiated automatically, whenever the filter bed becomes dirt-laden. A change in pressure differential across the filter bed, or an automatic preset time signal, activates backwashing.
The current design incorporates the high intensity of a mixer to vigorously agitate the media bed during the scrubbing cycle. The mixer is combined with the separating efficiency of a rotating backwash scrubber screen to produce the optimum separation of the scrubbed media from the concentrated backwash fluids.

Product Range
High throughput nut shell filters for purification of oily process water and industrial wastewater. Product Range Single filtration units are available up to 5,000 GPM (175,000 BWPD). Hydromation Nut Shell Filtration Systems give double the throughput of conventional deep bed sand or graded mixed-media filters. Horizontal and vertical models are available for flexibility. Hydromation builds ten (10) standard vertical and six (6) standard horizontal Hydromation Nut Shell Filter models. Vertical models provide a flow rate range from 70 GPM to 2800 GPM per unit, while horizontal models provide flow rates from 1200 GPM to 12000 GPM per unit, each depending on the application. Units are pre-assembled at the factory and can be shipped to the job site skid-mounted, ready for installation. Also, larger sizes can be custom-designed to meet your specific project need

Sequence of Operation
Filtration Cycle The Clean Discharge valve "B" is opened. Dirty liquid enters through the top of the vessel, flowing through the media and discharging through the clean water discharge "B". Solids are captured in the media bed.
Agitation Cycle The Clean Discharge valve "B" is closed. The Filter By-Pass valve "C" is opened and the agitator is started. The media bed is agitated freeing the solid particles that the media has captured.
Backwash Cycle The Backwash Discharge Valve "A" is opened, and backwash begins. A small amount of liquid is used to carry the solid particles out of the filter through the Backwash Discharge
Delay Cycle All valves are closed and the Agitator is stopped. The media bed is allowed to settle down before proceeding.
Recirculation Cycle The Recirculation Discharge Valve "D" is opened. The media bed is packed down and filtration has begun. Recirculation allows for dirty water to be cleaned from the support screens and clean water discharge piping of the filter.
Cycle Times This chart shows the approximate cycle times and valve positions during each cycle.
