The central filtration system pictured was provided to G.M. for the A790 transmission program. The application is steel gear teeth grinding and honing, utilizing KAPP machine tools.
The central filtration system was designed to filter 570 gpm. of 150 SSU oil, while maintaining an oil temperature of 72 +/-2 F and an ISO 4406 clarity of 15/12.
For this application, Filtra-Systems supplied simultaneous engineering, design, manufacturing, integration and delivery of the complete VPC-100-2 pressure filter system shown. The filter system included the VPC pressure filter, clean and dirty tank, heat exchanger, cartridge filters, filter supply pumps, system supply pumps and control panel.
The entire system was completely assembled, wired and functionally tested on Filtra-Systems manufacturing floor before shipment to General Motors. This system was chosen for its robust design, simple operation and fine filtration capabilities. The entire filtration system was designed to be installed on the plant floor, as shown, and could be located anywhere in the plant.
In addition, the plant floor installation eliminated the need for in floor trench, sumps or installation pits, while providing unlimited flexibility in machine tool layouts. Dirty oil is returned from the hones, to the filter system via pumpstations located at each hone and overhead gravity return piping.
