Gear Grinding Central Coolant Filtration System | Case Study
Filtra-Systems' proximity to Detroit and the automotive industry has made us the go-to supplier of coolant filtration systems to America's car industry.
Over three decades of of experience in designing, building, and installing filtration systems has given us the experience-based knowledge necessary to maintain our lead in the filtration space and give our customers the support they need.
The Project
The Gear Grinding Central Coolant Filtration System shown on this page was provided for GM's A790 transmission program.
The specific application is steel gear teeth grinding and honing, utilizing KAPP machine tools.
This grinding coolant filtration system is designed to filter 570 gpm of 150 SSU oil, while maintaining an oil temperature of 72 +/- 2 F and an ISO 4406 clarity spec of 15/12.
Filtra-Systems strength is that we engineer, design, manufacture, integrate, and deliver our systems for our customers all over the world, and this VPC-100-2 pressure filter supplied to GM was no exception.
This system includes:
- VPC Pressure Filter
- Clean and Dirty Tanks
- Heat Exchanger
- Cartridge Filters
- Filter Supply Pump
- System Supply Pump
- Control Panel
More Info
The gear grinding central coolant filtration system was completely assembled, wired, and functionally tested on Filtra-Systems' manufacturing floor before shipment to General Motors.
Our grinding coolant filtration system was chosen for its robust design, simple operation, and fine filtration capabilities.
The entire filtration system was designed to be installed on the plant floor, and could be located anywhere in the plant.
Our involvement in every step of our product's life translates to possessing an intimate knowledge of how customers incorporate our systems into their operations.
In addition, the plant floor installation eliminated the need for in-floor trenches, sumps, and installation pits, and so provides unlimited flexibility in machine tool layouts. Dirty oil is returned from the machine tools to the filter system via pumpstations located at each tool and through overhead gravity return piping.
