Filtering, purifying biodiesel
Community Fuels is one of the largest biodiesel manufacturers in the United States, producing this carbon neutral fuel from a variety of feedstocks. To increase production and improve the product quality in order to meet the ASTM cold soak test they decided to conduct an extensive engineering study to determine what technology could improve their existing system.
Community Fuels had been utilizing a series of bag filters sized at 1 micron, and had been manually pre-coating the bags with D.E. The bags were changed daily, and were thrown away after a single use.
The Verti-Press VPC filter was selected as the best available technology due to its automated pre-coating and filtration cycle which employs a permanent media filter belt. This eliminates the use of disposable paper products, which reduces landfill wastes. In addition the Verti-Press has the ability to produce product that meets the ASTM Cold Soak Test, which allows the end user the assurance that they are providing the highest quality biodiesel product to their customers.
